Durgamati

Hey, you! Yes, you! Do you like the work I’ve been doing here over the years. Would you like to help support The Vigil Idiot? Why don’t you check out the Fan Zone and see how you can contribute? I appreciate your readership a whole lot either way but, you know… I’d appreciate you even more if you chipped in!

Right. So ‘Durgamati’ is the Hindi remake of G. Ashok’s Telugu-Tamil original ‘Bhaagamathie’, which came out in 2018. It’s a horror-thriller about Bhumi Pednekar’s character being possessed by a ghost while the cops investigate a case she might have knowledge of. Now, that actually sounds like a promising premise tbh. And, hey, maybe the OG film lives up to it. I wouldn’t know since I haven’t watched it.

I did watch this shockingly dumb version, though. And lemme tell ya, unless none of it is based on the original, I highly doubt any movie made from this story is living up to anything.

This week’s recap was brought to you by our supremely amazing producers Juhi Bansal and Aarat Sheth.

Also, massive shoutouts to some of the people who help keep these recaps free and regular:

The hraging hrockstar, Hrushikesh Gandhi
The mysterious monolith that is Abanith
The OG thriller, Chiranjib B
The Zen Master, Siddhartha Jha
Kareena Kaun? It’s Kruti Kansara!
A bestie who lives across the sea, Sharanyaa Vasan
The not-at-all harsh, Sriharsha Darbha
And the generally remarkable, Gayathri Raghavan
