Youngistaan

A few years ago, Pepsi started an ad campaign with Ranbir Kapoor that was proudly called ‘Youngistaan’. It was supposed to be youth-oriented, hep, and about how India is a land of youngsters. It was also one of the worst ad campaigns that any soft drink company has ever run. One that, for some reason, they continue to stick with to this day. Now, Syed Ahmad Afzal’s ‘Youngistaan’ – The Movie is supposed to be youth-oriented, hep, and about how India is a land of youngsters. It also starts off with a disclaimer that says that they are not affiliated with the Pepsi campaign in any way. Here’s the thing! When even the worst ad campaign in history doesn’t want to be associated with you, maybe it’s a good idea to rethink the product that you’re putting out. Unfortunately, this film starring Jackky Bhagnani as India’s reluctant 28-year-old Prime Minister does none of that. They say that the movie is never as good as the book it’s based on. Turns out, this is doubly true for movies based on shitty ad campaigns.
