Considering how not good Chetan Bhagat’s previous movie adaptation, ‘2 States’, turned out, and considering how ‘Half Girlfriend’ was a critically panned novel, it was already gonna take something special for this to be a decent movie. But when they cast Arjun Kapoor (playing village area protagonist Madhav) and Shraddha Kapoor (as angrezi-speaking Riya) – two star kids with a grand total of three expressions between them – you knew they had a very special shitshow on their hands. Now I haven’t read it, so I can’t say this for certain, but it’s a pretty safe bet that even Bhagat isn’t bad enough a writer for this film to be better than the book.
